Democratic Candidate Eugene DePasquale
The Democratic candidate for PA Attorney General Eugene DePasquale spoke to me this evening. He served 3 terms in the PA state house serving York County and 2 terms as PA Auditor General. As Auditor General he brought attention to untested rape kits and to over 58,000 calls to the state child abuse hotline that were unanswered. In 2020, he made a run for the U.S. House in Pa but lost to Republican Scott Perry. He now works as an adjunct law professor in Pittsburgh. The video of our conversation can be seen above.
We spoke of his record as Auditor General and his platform for the Attorney General office. I asked him about Put People First’s proposal for the creation of a Public Healthcare Advocate office. He agreed with it in principle. He also spoke in favor of eliminating the statute of limitations for sexual abuse victims of the Catholic Church. Finally we spoke of the influence of the change in the Democratic ticket from Joe Biden to Kamala Harris. So far it has energized the down ballot races.
Republican Candidate Dave Sunday
His opponent is York County District Attorney Dave Sunday. He has been running ads before DePasquale because Sunday has been funded by right wing billionaire Jeffrey Yass. DePasquale’s funding is mainly from small donors and unions. Dave Sunday’s focus is on prosecuting low level criminals while DePasquale’s focus is more on defending women’s rights and taking on corporate malfeasance. Sunday has made an issue of DePasquale’s lack of experience as a prosecutor.
Time will tell which candidate for PA Attorney General will win. The down ballot races are just as influential as the top of the ticket.
