Bernie Meeting In Johnstown 1/26/2020

Teaching has been getting busier lately so it has been harder to find time to post here.  I’m also getting close to having my book published.  In addition to all of this I will be working to organize for Bernie Sanders once again in Pennsylvania.  We were able to win Cambria County for him inContinue reading “Bernie Meeting In Johnstown 1/26/2020”

GOP Congress Enthusiastic About Protecting Trump? Actions Speak Louder Then Words

Much has been said about the Impeachment of Donald Trump.  On Wednesday there was 11 hours of debate.  One GOP Congressman even compared the proceedings in the house to the trial of Jesus before Pontius Pilate.  All GOP Congressmen and did vote against impeachment with three Democrats.   The graph above shows that the vote onContinue reading “GOP Congress Enthusiastic About Protecting Trump? Con Man Carnicella

Above is an ad run by Democratic Cambria County Commisioners Tom Chernisky and BJ Smith against their opponent, Republican Jerry Carnicella.  They take him to task for not voting in the last two commissioner elections, being delinquent on his taxes and supporting a single payer/Medicare for All healthcare system.  I can’t comment on the firstContinue reading “Con Man Carnicella”

Freshman House Democrats, their Race/Ethnicity, Campaign Donors, and Single Payer

Last week I posted on how Freshman House Democrats differed in campaign contributions from the healthcare industry with respect to their Race/Ethnic background and their support for single payer healthcare and or Medicare for All.  Nonwhite freshman who supported Medicare for All received considerably less in contributions received considerably less that white ones who did. Continue reading “Freshman House Democrats, their Race/Ethnicity, Campaign Donors, and Single Payer”

Freshman Democratic Congressman and Medicare for All

The website Tarbell has published an analysis of the 62 freshman House Democrats looking at their support for Medicare for All and how much in campaign donations from the health care industry that they received.  The author, Danielle Keeton-Olsen, states that those members who publicly declared their support for Medicare for All or Single PayerContinue reading “Freshman Democratic Congressman and Medicare for All”

2020: Rarin to Go

It even surprises me to see how many candidates have thrown their hats into the Presidential ring for 2020.  Elizabeth Warren, Tulsi Gabbard, Julian Castro, and Kirsten Gillibrand.  The Guardian lists three others of whom I have never heard: State Sen. Richard Ojeda (D-WV), Businessman Andrew Yang, and Former Congressman John Delaney.  They also list atContinue reading “2020: Rarin to Go”

Is the Shutdown the Tipping Point for Trump?

Previously I reported on how Trump’s approval ratings have remained remarkably consistent in the face of revelations of scandals and the separation of immigrant children from their families.  Since then Trump’s Real Clear Politics (RCP) average of approval ratings took a brief dip from 43% to 40% in the events surrounding Sen. John McCain’s funeral andContinue reading “Is the Shutdown the Tipping Point for Trump?”

Voter Turnout Reflects change in Voting Patterns in 2018 Cambria County (PA)

A report was released today by Keystone Crossroads showing how voter turnout increased from 43% in 2014 (the last midterm election) to 58% this year.  These numbers are for the percentage of registered voters who voted.  For my county, 50,184 voters out of 83,338 registrants voted for a turnout of 60.22%.  If one considers theContinue reading “Voter Turnout Reflects change in Voting Patterns in 2018 Cambria County (PA)”

Election Reflections: Gains for PA Democrats Outside of Cambria County

My social media experiment did not work.  Of the nine local and statewide races I followed, only 5 winners had the greater social media presence (see table below).  In 2016 Facebook followings predicted the winner in 8 of the 9 races.  Does that mean that Russia does not care about our elections any more orContinue reading “Election Reflections: Gains for PA Democrats Outside of Cambria County”

Losses in Registered Democrats have Accelerated Since 2016 for Cambria and Somerset Counties (PA)

Cambria County used to be a reliable county for Democrats.  This was especially true for Democratic Presidential candidates from 1960 to 2000.  Pundits were shocked when in 2016 Donald Trump won the county with 66% of the vote.  .  For one year after there were several documentary filmmakers (including Katie Couric for National Geographic and GaryContinue reading “Losses in Registered Democrats have Accelerated Since 2016 for Cambria and Somerset Counties (PA)”
