A little bit of housekeeping before I talk about the 46th Appalachian Studies Association Conference. I have been busy with teaching, working and other things to post twice a week. Allegheny Independent Media is looking for contributors. We are able to pay $50 per article. The Southern Poverty Law Center will be coming out with a new hate group map and County Health Rankings will be coming out with their 2023 rankings. This will be a source of new posts for the site.
I will be attending and presenting the 46th Appalachian Studies Association Conference will be at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio this year. The conference is a mix of scholars, artists, musicians, and vendors all with a connection to Appalachia. Last year it was in Morgantown, WV. A summary of last year’s conference can be seen above.
Geographically, the Appalachian Mountains run from Mississippi to Maine. Culturally Appalachia goes as far north as New York state. The Allegheny Mountains are a subset of the Appalachians in Pennsylvania. I will be conducting interviews and recruiting contributors there.
