Recently, the Southern Poverty Law Center has published its new hate map for 2025. Last year they tracked 1,263 groups nationwide. The year before they tracked 1,371 groups and 1,430 in 2023. There was a 12% decrease between 2023 and 2025 in the raw number of groups. When adjusting for population there were 3.81 groups per million residents in 2025, 4.14 groups per million in 2024, and 4.31 groups per million in 2023. Nationally there appears to be a decrease. The national map can be seen above. Next lets look at the numbers for Pennsylvania.

Of the 26 Mom’s for Liberty chapters listed in 2023, 14 were listed in 2025. This accounts for 12 of the 35 groups that are off of the list. According to the Mom’s for Liberty website, they currently have 16 active county chapters in Pennsylvania. The remaining decrease in the number of groups is attributable to local organization either disbanding (like Evergreen and the National Justice Party in Bedford County) or possibly falling off the Southern Poverty Law Center’s radar.

In 2023, 25 of the 78 Pennsylvania groups had a statewide presence or were the national headquarters for the group. In 2025, 8 of these groups had a statewide presence. These are:

  1. East Coast Knights of the True Invisible Empire – Ku Klux Klan
  2. National Alliance – Neo-Nazi
  3. Asatru Folk Assembly – Neo-Volkisch (ethnocentricity and archaic notions of gender)
  4. American Defense Skinheads – Pennsylvania
  5. Keystone United – Racist Skinhead
  6. Life Force Network – Sovereign Citizen
  7. Pennsylvania Active Club – White Nationalist
  8. Patriot Front – White Nationalist

Of these the Patriot Front was protesting locally at the Indiana, PA pride festival and marching on Washington, DC this July 4. Even though there may be a decrease in the number of hate groups in PA, the treat still exists.
