Venezuela in Turmoil: Trump’s Move Sparks Debate at Johnstown Rally

A rally in Johnstown, PA, on January 3, 2026, turned explosive as protesters voiced concerns over President Donald Trump’s handling of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s capture.

Maduro, accused of leading a cartel and collaborating with FARC, was flown to New York to face U.S. charges. While some Venezuelans celebrate, others worry about Trump’s intentions, especially given his statement that the U.S. will “run the country” until a transition is arranged. ⁴ ⁵ ⁶

Locally, residents are questioning Trump’s priorities. “The capture also tells another story to the people who want help here locally in the USA,” said an American attendee, referencing domestic issues. A live video of the rally has racked up over 60k views, highlighting the divisive reaction.

The move has sparked debate on Trump’s true intentions, hence some accusing him of seeking control over Venezuela’s oil reserves. What’s your take on Trump’s move? Will it bring stability to Venezuela or escalate tensions?

  1. It’s not hard to connect the dots. Decades of US invasions, genocides, wars, assassinations, coups, stealings, lies and evil perpetuated around the world. All had bi partisan support and hysterically labeled (falsely) as patriotic and in the interests of the nation. How can anyone think that the Democrats are going to stop it? It’s time to wake up. Trump is not an outlier, he’s just more of the same. More gross and crude but the policies of war, privatization, repression, denial of civil liberties didn’t originate with Trump. Remember the Gaza genocide and insane military spending continues with either party.
