I was surprised by the sudden announcement of the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on May 4 of next year. This was after the announcement that Congress voted to cut funding for National Public Radio (NPR). Religiously, I relied heavily on the shows the Daily Show and the Colbert Report on my old website CSI without Dead Bodies. This includes the all time most read post for that site. I imported posts from the old site imported to this site. This post says bye bye to NPR and Colbert.

I haven’t cited a lot of NPR stories on this site or the old site but I do listen to the local station, WESA in Pittsburgh. Like all public media in the U.S., without public funding, they are heavily dependent on philanthropic generosity and corporate donations to operate. Often this money has strings attached as to what content that they can produce. Funding cuts may make the This makes sites like these more valuable than ever.
Above is Jon Stewart skewering Paramount for dismissing Stephen Colbert. I did not use clips from The Late Show because I found his brand of comedy as edgy as it was for the Colbert Report. He became more bland for me. His humor boiled down to “Democrats good, Republicans bad.” On the rival Fox News show Gutfeld the humor boils down to “Democrats bad, Republicans good.” This echoes on a lot of comedy shows.
The third anniversary of Allegheny Independent Media was on July 8. We will continue to post non fluff stories on trends in the area to fill the void. On Friday, I will be interviewed by Ed Pilkington of the Guardian of London on trends in the area. It may not truly me bye bye to NPR and Colbert but what form will their content take?

Two thumbs up for the Jon Stewart clip!
