Election Precinct Level Data In Cambria County

Precincts and voting places

Previously, I have posted on the election results at the national and state levels. This week I will focus on the county and precinct results for Cambria County. Cambria County has 125 election precincts. The map above is from the Cambria County Elections office. The county has received attention for swinging heavily towards Donald Trump and the GOP after once being a solid Democratic County. While the county as a whole went heavily for Trump in 2016 and 2020, both Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden won Johnstown by 83 and 80 votes respectively.

KAMALA D HARRIS (DEM) 21,177 (29.6%)21,730 (30.8%)-553 (-1.2%)

This year, 71,643 people voted in Cambria County compared to about 70,574 in 2020. Kamala Harris received 21,177 votes or 29.6%. Trump received 49,408 or 69.0%. The table above shows that Trump received 1,323 more votes than in 2020 in the county. Harris received 553 fewer votes than Biden in 2020.

Harris only won 8 out of the 125 precincts in Cambria County. Seven of these were in Johnstown. The other was in Franklin Borough. When I totaled up the votes for the 17 precincts in Johnstown, Trump won the city by 168 votes. Malcolm Kenyatta and Erin McClelland won the city by 26 and 97 votes in the Auditor General and State Treasurer races respectively. Eugene DePasquale did not win any precincts in the county in the Attorney General race. Beth Farnham ran for Congress and won only 7 precincts in the county and lost the city by 286 votes.

žLike Harris, Biden won 7 out of the 17 precincts and won the city by 80 votes in 2020. žHillary Clinton won 11 out of the 20 precincts in Johnstown and won the city by 83 votes in 2016. žThis year Frank Burns won 16 out of the 17 precincts in Johnstown and the city by 1,154 votes.

The county and precinct results for Cambria show the challenges for Democrats here. What strategy is best to turn things around for the county is a harder question to answer. My personal opinion is that changes need to happen at the state and national levels to help make this happen. It is clear that Harris courting never Trump Republicans like Liz Cheyney did not work.

  1. What about third parties, total number of registered voters and unregistered? Any way of getting data on the reasons people voted for any of the candidates or chose not to vote?
