The unmet need score (UNS) details how health care needs go unmet at the zip code level in the U.S. It is a composite of 28 zip-code level statistics. One of these measures is zip-code health center penetration. It is defined as the Ratio of the population served by a health center to the population with household income below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Health Center Penetration is capped at a value of one.
The graph above shows the correlation between the UNS and health center penetration for Cambria and Somerset Counties. The vertical line at 75 UNS shows the limit for high need areas. The diagonal line shows the best fit straight line or regression line for the data. There is some overlap into neighboring counties with 119 zip codes. There is a negative correlation that accounts for 37.2% of the variability. If 100% of the variability were accounted for, all of the zip-codes would fall on the regression line. For every increase of 10 in the UNS, there is a predicted 0.10 decrease in the health center penetration.
