Last week I posted on the Concealed Carry law in Pennsylvania. I showed that states with Concealed Carry laws had 34% higher death rates than ones who do not. The video from the presentation is re-posted above and the data from the conceal carry law is re-posted below. This week I will look at stand your ground laws in the U.S. and gun death rates. Stand your ground laws give the right to individuals to use deadly force against someone you feel threatened by.
| State Groups | Count of states | Average in Deaths/100,000 | Std Dev |
| No Conceal | 16 | 12.05 | 6.91 |
| Yes Conceal | 13 | 17.89 | 5.90 |
| Conceal w restrictions | 21 | 18.34 | 5.48 |

The above image shows states with stand your ground laws (36) and those without (14) from the website tactical gear. Looking at the distribution of states with conceal carry versus stand your ground laws, the table below shows that stares with conceal carry laws are more likely to have stand your ground laws.
| No Stand Your Ground | Stand Your Ground | Total | |
| No Conceal Carry | 9 | 7 | 16 |
| Yes Conceal Carry | 3 | 10 | 13 |
| Conceal w restrictions | 2 | 19 | 21 |
| Total | 14 | 36 | 50 |
Looking at this distribution of states, I thought it would be useful to look at average gun death rates. I conducted a 2 way analysis of variance (2 way ANOVA) to simultaneously test the association between the two types of gun laws. There was a significant effect of conceal carry and stand your ground laws. This means that states with both Conceal and Stand Your Ground laws have higher gun deaths.

There was no significant interaction term. The lack of significance for the interaction could be due to unbalanced data in the different conditions. The lack of an interaction should mean that the lines in the graph above would be parallel to each other. There were 3 states in the conceal carry and no stand your ground condition. Ten states were in the conceal carry and stand your ground condition.

Combining the two conceal groups yields the same overall effect with a significant effect of conceal carry laws and of stand your ground laws. Likewise, there was no interaction effect for both types of laws.
All of this shows that states with conceal carry have higher rates of gun deaths. Stand your ground states also have higher gun death rates. There was no additive effect for states that have both of these types of laws.
