Hate Group Flyering in Pennsylvania

I was going to post on the low life expectancy for African Americans in Cambria County. However most of the numbers from County Health rankings have hardly changed from last year due to an issue with the census. Just reciting numbers from last year is redundant. It is cited in the related posts below. I also am waiting to hear back from the Southern Poverty Law center (SPLC) about the Evergreen group in Bedford, PA. Those I have asked (including the Bedford Gazette) from Bedford County had never heard of them. I thought I would devote time to the SPLC’s tracking of flyering by hate groups in PA.

The second highest state in the number of flyers posted in 2022 at 1,218 is PA. Of these, 1,170 were public (96%), 38 were campus flyers (3%), and 10 were banners (1%). The group that posted most often was the Patriot Front with 960 (79%), groups categorized as other were second with 235 (19%), there were 23 flyers from the Ku Klux Klan (2%). The list of “other” groups includes:

Groups such as The Daily StormerThe David Horowitz Freedom Center, and “It’s okay to be white,” which is not a group name but rather the content of a flyer that has been popularized on the imageboard, 4chan. “Other” now also contains all of the flyering incidents carried out by the American Identity Movement, a white nationalist group previously known as Identity Evropa. Since disbanding in November 2020, this group has stopped posting hateful propaganda. From the website.

The map above shows the distribution of flyers found in Pennsylvania in 2022. Naturally the more populous parts in the eastern part of the state and in Pittsburgh have more flyers. The area does have some flyering in Seward, Blairsville, Altoona, Ebensburg and points north. The flyering by hate groups in PA peaked between the summer and winter of 2021.
