Nicholas Jacobs on the Status of Healthcare in the U.S.

Nicholas Jacobs, FACHE (Fellow in the College of Healthcare Executives) is a former music teacher who has become a leader in the field of health care. He is the director of Senior Management Resources. His blog Healing Hospitals chronicles his efforts to improve healthcare for all. He has written books titled Taking the Hell out of Healthcare. I knew him when I was in WJAC TVs heartland band. He directed the band with Bishop McCort’s band director Sam Signorino. Nicholas Jacobs spoke on the Status of Healthcare in the U.S.

We discussed healthcare on the national level. The image at the top shows the 11 states that still refuse to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. We discussed profiteering in the system and how resources are not allocated for maximum benefit here in the U.S. The U.S. spends more per capita on health care but lags behind other industrialized countries in health outcomes. Life expectancy in the U.S. is now at its lowest level in 25 years at 76.4 years. A paradigm shift is needed to address these disparities.

Nicholas Jacobs also spoke with me on the status of healthcare in the U.S. as it relates to the pandemic. U.S. life expectancy has decreased in the last 3 years due to the pandemic and other issues.
