The match up in Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons resembles the matchup in New England’s first Super Bowl win.  Super Bowl XXXVI (37 in Arabic numerals) was a match-up between the Patriots and the St. Louis Rams.  In 2002, the Patriots had an unproven young quarterback in Tom […]

This is an essay I wrote for admission to a Masonic lodge.                Opinions differ about what human rights are.  The UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was championed by Eleanor Roosevelt, has 30 articles.  The Declaration of Independence famous statement that “all men are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that […]

President Obama gave a nice eulogy to the Rev. and South Carolina State Senator Clementa Pinckney on Friday after he laid in state at the South Carolina State Capitol.  He was the first African American to have such an honor after being gunned down by white supremacist Dylann Roof.  While Rev. Pinckney was the first […]

The above video gives a good overview of how the sands of the Middle East have changed since the death of the Prophet Mohammed in 632 AD.  Conquering powers come and go as can be seen (This happens in other places in the world as well of course).  Is ISIS the latest conqueror?  It now […]

Much was made of the 70th anniversary of D-Day last week which was the beginning of the end for Hitler’s Third Reich (along with Stalingrad in the east for the Soviets).  Much less talked about in the US is the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I coming up this summer.  The beginning […]

The Bible has been a big ratings bonanza for the History Channel and the Lifetime Network.  Over and over it relies on the main characters such as Saul, David, Solomon and Nebuchadnezzar being guided by the prophets like Samuel, Nathan, Isaiah, and Daniel.  Prophets are like fortune tellers in that they are messengers from […]

This is the latest in a series of posts of earth shattering events which surrounded the US Civil War. They are tied either directly or indirectly to the war between the states.  The first two posts were on military conflicts which were concurrent with and were influenced by the battle between the Blue and the […]

Jesus said to his disciples “Who do you say that I am?”  Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.”  Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you Simon son of Jonah.  For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my heavenly Father.  And […]
