Today I spoke with Alexis Zinovenko of Pride of Somerset County on LGBTQ issues in the area. When she transitioned from male to female in 2012 there were few supports available in the area. She lost her job, family, and some friends.

We also discussed challenges in finding the health services that transgender people need. Many who are transitioning genders have to travel to Pittsburgh to obtain the hormones that they need. This is correlated to the lack of available healthcare in the rural parts of Pennsylvania.
Also discussed were hate crimes against the LGBTQ community, transgender athletes in sports, and politicians such as Doug Mastriano and Mehmet Oz playing on transgender bigotry. You can see and hear her responses in the video above. It was a good discussion of LGBTQ issues with Alexis Zinovenko of Pride of Somerset County.
